Anastasia Sargent grew up on unceded Wampanoag land in Aquinnah, MA. She received her BFA from Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA) in 2018 where she graduated as class valedictorian. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Visual Art at Cornell University’s School of Art Architecture and Planning in Ithaca, NY.
Informed by personal, mythological, and historical narratives, my research based practice addresses themes of belief, extraction, patriarchy, addiction, and class. My work is guided by analytic inquiry and intuition. My current work investigates various chain reactions related to minerals, mining, and technology. I am motivated by art’s potential to slow down our rapidly shifting era and illuminate interdependencies. Through sculpture, assemblage, ceramics, and installation, I seek to make vicious cycles and divergent time scales visible.
