Anastasia Sargent is an interdisciplinary artist who grew up on unceded Wampanoag territory in Aquinnah, MA. They received their BFA from Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA) in 2018 where they graduated as class valedictorian. They are currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Visual Art at Cornell University’s School of Art Architecture and Planning.

Informed by personal, mythological, and historical narratives, their research based practice addresses themes of extraction, reproductive labor, patriarchy, addiction, and class. Vicious cycles, chain reactions, and time scales gain visibility through a multimedia practice guided by analytic inquiry and intuition. Repurposed materials, imbued with the past functions they served, stand in as symbols for the larger industries they originate from. Their practice functions as an experimental lab for rewiring systems of power and belief. Working across assemblage, installation, ceramics, textiles, printmaking, sculpture, video, text, and appropriated images, they cite the interdisciplinary aspect of their work as vital to demonstrating a multitude of interdependencies.
